ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – INTERN
The Federal Public Defender for the Southern District of Florida is accepting applications for the full-time position of Administrative Assistant in the Miami Office. The Federal Public Defender, a branch of the United States Courts, is an Equal Opportunity Employer and operates under the authority of the Criminal Justice Act (18 U.S.C. § 3006A) to provide defense services to indigent persons in federal criminal cases.
Requirements: The successful applicant must be a college graduate. College graduate with a business degree preferred. Federal Court experience, especially with JIFMS is also preferred. Applicants must be United States Citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
Duties: The Administrative Assistant will provide a variety of administrative support services to the administrative staff and assist the Administrative Officer in the following manner: provide information according to available reference material; assist with word processing tasks and assignments; assist in recording statistical data; operate office equipment and assist other staff members in use of machines; receive and route incoming mail, faxes, and deliveries; data entry; procure office supplies and equipment; create spreadsheets in Excel; prepare and review vouchers for payment; assist with budget projection; monitors and controls expenses incurred in the operation and maintenance of the office; ensures adherence to federal and local, financial, personnel and procurement practices and procedures; assists with the responsibility for complying with the internal controls procedures of the office; assists with coordination of construction projects and arranges office relocations, renovations, and repairs; serve as back up for different personnel in administration; perform all other duties as assigned. The incumbent must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Selection Criteria: This position requires excellent proofreading and editing skills with meticulous attention to detail; computer literacy with a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and JIFMS: accurate typing and filing skills; excellent organizational and writing abilities; and a demonstrated ability to communicate with individuals and groups of varying backgrounds. Prior experience in an office environment mandatory. A test on Excel formulas, writing skills, etc., will be given at time of interview.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position and federal salary and benefits apply. The salary for this position will be based on experience and qualifications and the Judiciary Salary Plan range from Grade 9, Step 1, $58,306 to Grade 12, Step 10, $109,924. This position is subject to mandatory Electronic Funds Transfer (direct deposit) participation of net pay. *We may offer a salary beyond the minimum starting salary depending on qualifications, experience, and court funds.
